About UltimateVJ

UltimateVJ is a free Mac VJ application with support by Walz Media. It focuses on the performer's clip workflow: arrange media in banks and layers, trigger clips, shape effects and choose output. The current published package is a Research Preview.

Walz Media is the support route named in the application. The checked 0.3.2 (build 6) bundle is signed with the Developer ID Application certificate for Wes Walz. The public app packages are published through the UltimateVJ release repository, with installation through the weswalz/ultimatevj Homebrew tap.

Why the site leads with the mixer

UltimateVJ brings clip performance and built-in RenderWave generated sources into one workflow. RenderWave supports the mix; it is not a requirement to replace your own media. Explore the documented features to find the relevant instructions rather than a list of unsupported promises.

The RenderWave venue footage on the homepage is labeled as RenderWave footage. It is not evidence that UltimateVJ has completed venue acceptance. The application screenshot shows UltimateVJ 0.3.2 (build 6), captured October 24, 2026 with a clean default set. The Grid is in Preview and Chromatic Vortex V2 is in the internal Output monitor. The saved shader set was reopened and those two actions repeated on the same Mac. This is a local workflow check; physical display and long-session acceptance remain separate.

Free distribution and preview status

UltimateVJ costs nothing to install and does not require an account or licence key. Free distribution does not establish an open-source licence or grant rights to third-party media. Check the terms attached to any clips or other materials you use.

The checked package is 0.3.2 (build 6) for Apple Silicon (arm64) on macOS 26 Tahoe or later. Full four-hour triggering soak, production workload performance and physical venue-output acceptance remain pending in the published release notes. Read the release record and system requirements before installation.

How to read the documentation

The manual is a development documentation snapshot with source-verification notes. It helps explain the interface, but source inspection is distinct from exercising a packaged app. When a guide describes hardware, performance or an integration, its stated verification limits matter.

This website's Resolume comparison is publisher-authored documented research. It is not an independent review, a benchmark or a hands-on test of both products. We link the sources and state the gaps.

Help and problem reports

Start with Troubleshooting for installation, missing media and output symptoms. For a problem that persists, use Walz Media's contact route and include your app version, macOS version, what you did, what you expected and what actually happened.

If you export a local runtime report, review it before sharing: local error text can contain file paths or media names. Automatic technical reporting is a separate choice in supported app builds. See Runtime debugging and reports and the privacy page for the distinction.

Evaluation assets

The evaluation kit provides the checked release record, asset hashes, support links and the scope of the local workflow checks. The Quickstart includes the saved shader set, generated lesson clip and versioned captures. No matched-workload benchmark or physical venue qualification is implied.
