Add text
- Click an empty clip tile to open Add a source.
- Choose Text. It inserts into that captured empty slot and opens Clip → Source.
- Edit the text in Text content, then choose its font, size, colour and alignment.
Insertion selects the new clip. If Trigger newly imported media is enabled, it also triggers it. A stale or occupied destination refuses insertion; cancel and reopen the browser for the intended empty slot.
The default source is white Text, Helvetica, 12% of canvas height, centred,
with scale animation Off. The source has transparency around the rendered text.
Typography and colour
- Font lists installed font faces. A saved face that is unavailable is identified; choose an installed face to render it rather than relying on silent substitution.
- Size (% of height) accepts 2…80. Layout uses the canvas height; the renderer can shrink the text to fit the canvas, so this is an authored size rather than a promise that every long string renders at that exact height.
- Text color supports opacity. Hex RGBA accepts six RGB or eight RGBA hex digits,
with an optional
#. Six digits mean fully opaque. Return commits; Escape restores the saved colour. The field also commits when focus leaves it. - Alignment offers Left, Center and Right.
- Text is limited to 64 KiB of UTF-8 and 512 lines. An invalid proposal shows an edit error and preserves the saved source.
Content, font, alignment and colour-picker changes apply through the text editor's
bindings. Numeric drafts commit on Return or focus loss. Text edits participate in
Undo/Redo and save inside the .uvj set; they are not linked to an external text file.
Scale animation
| Control | Values | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Animation | Off, Scale up, Scale down, Bounce | Off |
| Duration (seconds) | 0.05…120 | 2 |
| Minimum scale | 0.05…4 | 0.5 |
| Maximum scale | 0.05…4, at least Minimum scale | 1 |
| Loop animation | on/off | off initially |
Scale up goes from minimum to maximum; Scale down goes from maximum to minimum. Bounce grows and shrinks over one complete duration. Selecting Bounce turns Loop animation on; you can turn it off afterward.
Animation follows the clip's playhead in seconds. A clip loop restarts it; pausing holds that playhead, and seeking changes the animation position. A nonlooping animation holds its endpoint. Source animation is separate from the clip's Transform and effect-parameter drivers.
Processing and limits
Text is a native source: its image enters the usual clip, layer, optional group and master pipeline. Use the normal clip transport, transform, opacity and effects controls. The source editor does not provide imported-text-file stepping or a subtitle timeline.
This page describes development source. Text availability and rendering on the public preview binary were not verified as part of this documentation task. No claim is made about font availability on another Mac or sustained frame rate.
