Is Ultimate VJ really free?
Yes. It costs nothing, and you don’t need an account or licence key. Free does not mean open source. See the general FAQ.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Homebrew installs the Mac app for you. You don’t need Node.js, npm, or a source build. Follow the installation guide.
Which Macs can run it?
You need an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 Tahoe or later. This package does not support Intel Macs.
Is this ready for a live show?
This is a Research Preview. Testing for long playback sessions and venue output is still pending. Test your complete setup before relying on it for a show.
Is it compatible with Resolume?
Ultimate VJ is a separate app with a clip-based workflow. It is not a drop-in replacement for Resolume compositions or plug-ins. Read the limitations.
Is RenderWave included?
Yes. RenderWave’s shaders generate visuals you can mix with your clips. The effect stack also has a RenderWave effect. The shader selection depends on the catalog installed with your build. Read about RenderWave shaders.
Does UltimateVJ send error reports?
Forthcoming in 0.2.5 (16); not yet in Homebrew. The current 0.2.4 (13) build provides local debugging and Markdown export. The pending welcome screen discloses automatic technical error reporting. Continue confirms the displayed choice; clear the checkbox to decline. Reports are sent only for monitored errors/stalls to help improve UltimateVJ, with app/system versions, GPU and performance counters. They exclude names, emails, filenames, paths, media, set contents, raw error messages and persistent user/device identifiers. Change the choice in Preferences → Performance. Can I sign up for email updates?
Forthcoming in 0.2.5 (16); not yet in Homebrew. The welcome screen's optional email form lets you request UltimateVJ updates, news and free visuals from Walz Media. Enter your address and choose Sign up, then follow the emailed link and choose Confirm subscription. Your request stays pending until you confirm; the link expires after 24 hours and can be used once.
Email signup is separate from diagnostics. Continue does not submit your email address, and technical reports never include it. You can use the app without joining the list. Read Optional email updates.
